Fibonacci hunting at Peel Parkrun

Saturday 18th September we decided to hit up Peel park run at the second event. The second event was important because it meant that we would complete a figure on the Fibonacci challenge. Even before the challenge was announced the elusive first couple of events are hard to come by. Naturally we had missed the inaugural event as these are not made public until after the first event in order to not overwhelm the volunteers.

The Fibonacci sequence is a mathematical formula that adds the two previous numbers together, for the challenge the first 14 numbers have been selected.

The run itself was quite flat and fast and in a very scenic park in Salford. It started off by the memorial at the centre of the park and headed along the river path before looping around for the second almost identical loop.

It was a dry and warm September morning, the flowers were mostly all in bloom and the university grounds were well maintained. Basically perfect running conditions.

By the standards of my usual park runs it was quite quiet and not too crowded once you had made it out on to the river path.

There was some incredibly fast runners that made it around in just over 16 minutes and I am happy to say that the first over the line was a woman.

This is a course that I would be happy to return to in the future. In fact we had initially planned to return for the third event and tick off another Fibonacci number.

However wind of a new event starting in Suffolk that may pan out to be our illusive number 1 and the chance is too good to miss. Watch this space to see if we get it.
