Running an Inaugural Parkrun

The weekend of 25th September 2021 we headed over to Suffolk to attend the inaugural park run at Harleston Magpies.

The event was run entirely on grass, the route was a series of triangular shapes throughout two fields that made the slightly long 5k course.

Staying very locally (3 minutes away) we arrived very early while the marshals were setting up.

After finishing our camp drive made coffee we actually had time to get a warm-up in.

Sam said he found the course quite hard and felt he was fatiguing a lot by the 3rd lap. He felt that running solely on the grass with roads shoes on was taking its toll. Still, he finished 5th and with a time in the 21minutes.

I really tried to pace my run, having a 10-mile race the next day I wanted to save my legs. I did find this hard mentally not to go with the people coming past me.

Normally I would have tried to kick on, or at least stay with them.

The 3 laps felt like they went quickly, and there was.  great opportunity to see where the other runners were. Especially if you were close to the front like Sam was.

The triangular loops gave you a chance to see if anyone was gaining on you so you could potentially speed up and push the pace.

All the marshals were amazing, all were super friendly and supportive.

I finished around the 30-minute mark and was in position 50. Being second in my age group and 12th woman knowing that I'm running a point to point 10 miles tomorrow I was pretty pleased with my run.

I'd compare the park run to Gloucester North or Fire Service College due to its XC style.

Having but attended an inaugural event we have ticked off 1 on the Fibonacci challenge and made our Wilson number jump up.

Now the quest continues to tick off the other numbers.
